FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What a pass does, who can use it, and what it costs.

The basics

What you are giving.

What is a JoyPass?

A JoyPass is a digital pass for a gift you provide. It can be a dinner, a day out, a favor, or anything else you want to offer. You create the pass, send a link, and the recipient saves it to Apple Wallet.

Is it a gift card with money on it?

No. JoyPass does not hold or transfer money. You can display an amount on a pass, but you arrange the gift and any payment with the recipient yourself.

How much does it cost?

Your first 3 JoyPasses are free with a new account. For help with additional passes or a purchase, contact the JoyPass team.

What can I use it for?

A Christmas dinner you will cook, a month of school pickups, tickets for a day out, or a coffee date. Passes also work for birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, and gifts with no occasion attached.

Gift ideas

Sharing & privacy

A little connection, with a choice about what you share.

Do I have to share my gifts publicly?

No. Each gift has a visibility setting: Private keeps its feed activity between the sender and recipient; Friends makes the gift visible to friends of either person; Public lets anyone see the gift, including its value.

Either the sender or recipient can change the gift’s visibility. Gift links grant access to the people who have them, so only send a gift link to someone you intend to share it with.

What can I see in my Home feed?

Your Home feed includes gifts your friends choose to share, along with your own sent, received, and redeemed gift activity. Your private gifts can appear in your own feed without appearing in your friends’ feeds.

Are plans, messages, and memory photos public too?

No. Plans, messages, and memory photos attached to a gift are for the sender and recipient. Making a gift visible to Friends or Public does not make those private details public.

Sending & receiving

Getting the gift to someone.

How do I send a pass?

Create your pass and share its gift link by text, email, or any messaging app. The recipient opens the link to get the gift and add it to Apple Wallet.

Does the recipient need an account or app?

They do not need a JoyPass account or the full app. On iPhone, they can save the pass to Apple Wallet and use the JoyPass App Clip to redeem it.

Does it work with Android?

The JoyPass Android app is coming soon. The iPhone app is available now: download JoyPass from the App Store. Apple Wallet passes require an iPhone.

Can I choose when the gift is revealed?

Yes. Set a reveal date when you make the pass. You can share it in advance, and the gift details stay hidden until that date. For a Christmas gift, choose December 25.

Using a pass

What happens after it is sent.

How does the recipient use their gift?

Arrange the gift with the sender, then use the redemption link on the Wallet pass to open the JoyPass App Clip and confirm a use. JoyPass keeps track of how many uses remain.

Can one pass be used several times?

Yes. You choose the number of uses when you create it. One movie night could have one use; a pass for a week of dog walks could have seven.

Does the pass disappear once it has been used?

No. You can keep it in Apple Wallet after all its uses are gone, or remove it yourself.
